Norman Foster Designed by architects Architecture is about people. Those elements that we touch in a building like the door handles - are a vital part of the experience of that building. A door handle can be likened to architecture in miniature - it has to work well for those who use it, it must look good, and it has to feel good to the touch. No detail is too small and every part of the design must be considered. The Partnership Design is a collaborative process. After working together on bespoke furniture and fixings, Foster + Partners invited Trapex to collaborate on a commercially available range of architectural hardware. Working together on the new FT range of products allowed Foster and Partners and Trapex to share ideas and skills, resulting in products where the quality of design is reflected by the quality of production. Foster + Partners
The FT range of architectural hardware expresses a single idea: matching functional ergonomic design with softened tactile surfaces. It is available in the full range of fixings, from door stops and snib turns, to drawer pulls, coat hooks, and pull handles. The formal qualities of each product is complimented by the materials it is made of, with handle surfaces that include knurled stainless steel and different colours of synthetic rubber. The range is suitable for domestic and commercial application, opening up a number of creative possibilities for designers.
